Soldier Child

I watched a interesting documentary called "Soldier Child".  The documentary made me realize how big this issue really is, because the news channels they may cover how poor some villages are, but they don't cover children soldiers that much.  They might but they don't cover it nearly as much as they should.  Not everyone knows how big of a problem this is, Because I didn't know much about children soldiers and unless you have seen a documentary or an extra on the news, I don't believe many people know much about the topic either.

This really showed me the issue, told me the scale of the issue, it really changed my mind on how I thought about children soldiers, and I really think that everyone remotely interested in issues about anything concerning Africa should watch this movie/documentary.  Its actually difficult to pick a favorite part or portion, but the best parts I thought were the stories that were told by the survivors who were able to talk about what happened to them.

  1. Hi Tyler. I strongly agree with your position about how the media has mistreated the magnitude of this issue. Children abducted and forced into soldiering should be front line news but it apparently remains unimportant in too many eyes. I also agree that people wanting to learn more about this topic should watch the "Soldier Child" documentary. To me, the best part of the documentary was the rehabilitation of the children and how they were able to play soccer with 'normal' children.

  2. I also agree very strongly, this topic should be more important to the world. Why don't people care as much about these children being corrupted as they do about what Snooki will name her baby? It's absurd to me, and I'm glad the both of you think so too.

Tyler, I was wondering, what story stuck out to you the most from the documentary? One that popped out at me was the 11 year old that had to kill someone with a hoe used for digging. It really disturbed me, and it's really hard to understand and relate to.

I also enjoyed the part of the documentary where we watched the children play soccer, it gave a sort of hope that the corrupted children can go back to a normal life.
